75th Anniversary of the foundation of Vatican City State!

2 Euros Celebrative issue

To celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the foundation of Vatican City State, the Philatelic and Numismatic Office has issued on December 16, 2004, a € 2 coin. On the reverse side it bears a stylized plan of Vatican City in which St. Peter's Basilica and Square are clearly visible. The citadel we see today was born within fortifications designed to defend the tomb of St. Peter, with the Basilica standing above it and its boundaries defined by the Leonine walls and Bernini's colonnade. UNESCO has declared it part of the "artistic heritage of humanity". A favourite destination for pilgrims and tourists, Vatican City State, which is located in the city of Rome, came into being on February 11th 1929, with the so-called "Lateran pacts" between the Holy See and Italy that led to the creation of a new geo-political entity, Vatican City State, placed under the exclusive jurisdiction of the Holy See. This city is the capital of the greatest "kingdom" in the world, a spiritual kingdom to which millions of Catholics spread over all the continents belong by right.    http://www.vatican.va

II Polish-Canadian Coin, Stamp   & Collectibles Show 2005 -    Great success !

by John L. Rudnicki

__On February 20th, 2005, Club "TROYAK" held an exhibition at John Paul II Polish Cultural Centre in Mississauga with a resound-ing success.  The exhibits were Philatelic (Postage Stamps) and Monetary (coins and paper monies).
__The Monetary exhibits were numerous and varied.  Coins found in Poland dated before Christ to present day.  Also military medals were exhibited and various items, too numerous to mention.  The Philatelic exhibits were of rare and unique items from the WWII POW  to uplifting exhibit of "Pope John Paul II - 26 Years on world stamps".

General view of  some exhibits...

__The show was also directed toward youth to encourage collecting stamps and/or coins as a hobby, which in turn promotes knowledge of history, geography, as well as promote camaraderie among young people.
__I would like to extend my congratulations to the "Troyak's" sixteen exhibitors who this year were recipients  of the "Club Challenge Award" certificate, for theirs unique and extra ordinary exhibits, which preserve and promote a very rich history of Poland. __The show was well attended. We can say that at times it was very crowded. The people were pleasantly surprised and sometimes astonished to see such a diversified exhibits.

Some"Troyak" members with the Consul General Piotr Konowrocki and his wife.

__Among many noted personalities that attended this exhibit was Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Toronto, Dr. Piotr Konowrocki with his lovely wife and his young children which took delight in starting a stamp collection: Polish of course.

Troyak's 2005 recipients of the "Club Challenge Award"

__I would like to acknowledge and thank the Executive Team of the Club "Troyak", especially the president Ignacy Kania. I am convinced that we will do better and bigger show next year.

THE  FLAG  OF  CANADA

40th ANNIVERSARY OF CANADA'S  NATIONAL FLAG !                                                A national flag is a simple, effective way of identi-fying both individual citizens and the nation as a whole - expressing its collective will and sovereignty. On February 15, 1965, Canada's new flag was raised for the first time during an official ceremony on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, which was adopted by the government of the Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson. Since that year proud Canadians especially celebrate its "National Flag Day" on February 15.   http://www.canada.gc.ca

THE FLAG ... CANADA  POST'S  NEW  ISSUE
___"This stamp design is evolving," says Bill Danard, Manager, Design and Production at Canada Post. "For several years we've used the image of the flag positioned over a background landscape. But now that the design has become familiar, we've made the flag itself a bit smaller, so we can focus more on the landscape."

__In a set of new domestic rate (50˘) definitives, Canada's flag still flies from the edge of each stamp on a virtual pole, hovering over the upper left part of the image, but the typography has been updated, and the image is now oriented vertically. And this year, instead of a single landscape, five different images from across the country have been featured. In each, the maple leaf flies over a miniature explosion of colour.

__"Our goal was to portray the diversity of Canada," says Danard. "We've represented five different regions, and we looked for a balance between rural and urban locations, using places that hadn't been featured on a stamp recently. The range of bright colours emphasizes this diversity, and provides variety in the booklet."      __The result is five distinct images in an eye-catching range of bold colour tones. Seen from one of its harbour islands, Toronto's skyline gleams in the golden-red light of the sunset. The green hills of Mont St-Hilaire, Quebec, frame the spire of the Church of Saint-Hilaire, known for its magnificent interiors painted by Ozias Leduc. Lush greenery surrounds the waters below Shannon Falls along the coastal highway at Squamish, British Columbia. Under a blue prairie sky, the Broadway Bridge spans the South Saskatchewan River in the centre of the city of Saskatoon. And brightly painted homes overlook the sea in the town of Durrell, on South Twillingate Island, Newfoundland.   http://www.canadapost.ca
